Why do we offer food to God?
Secret of prasadam
The offering is the nature of humankind, humans’ gives a
lot to each other from the very beginning that makes them different from
animals. Generally, food is to be offered to the hungry person and to the
person who can be satisfied but the fact of contradiction is that God is never
hungry at all and we can’t satisfy him as well because he is infinite and
finite can’t feed to infinite, so why people offer it to God? That is the
question has been raised. The terms related to Almighty are having physical and
psychological (Spiritual) meanings. We know the physical one but it comes to
psychological (Spiritual) one.
According to the Indian tradition fruits and sweets are
offered largely (Which is referred to as prasadam), both have bit different aspects. When we offer fruits to God
then it means that you are offering your fruit of life (that you have achieved
till now) to God. The fruit of life can be referred to as the essence of your
knowledge that has been gained by you in your life. Why does anyone can offer
that? The very next question may arise. In order to reply to this, we must
understand what we have in our life, of course, we are not talking about money
or property (this is a physical aspect of gaining). Actually what you have is
your knowledge which is you offering it to, rest all the other things belong to
Almighty itself. God after having your fruit of life will become satisfied and
he will give you his fruit of knowledge in return and that makes you even
wiser, it is a profitable exchange, isn’t it?
Sweet is a bit different from fruit. If fruit depicts the
essence (knowledge) of your life than sweet represents the happiness of your
life. You are offering a part of your happiness to him in the exchange God will
share his part of happiness to you that makes you, even more, happier than
before again it’s a good exchange to do right?
Knowledge and happiness given by Almighty will remain
forever which means it is eternal that shows if you will be nicer to God (or
humanity) God will be far nicer to you because he is infinite.
Next time we offer food to god keep in mind that we are
offering our parts of life to Almighty that will make us more happier and
wiser.
